How’s this for amazing news … Playbill.com is reporting that the wildly successful (and absolutely amazing) Broadway musical Wicked is going to be making the transition to the big screen. Much like Chicago, Hairspray and most recently Mama Mia! before it, Wicked is in the process of being adapted into a movie. This new production will be handled by Marc Platt Productions for Universal Pictures:

Marc Platt has extended his contract with Universal Pictures for five years, according to Variety. Marc Platt Productions currently has several projects of interest to theatre plans in the works, including a film version of the international hit Wicked, a remake of the 1973 Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice film “Jesus Christ Superstar” and a new motion picture about the life of the late composer George Gershwin. Universal Pictures production president Donna Langley told the industry paper, “Our goal now is absolutely to make the Wicked film, but much like Judy Craymer wouldn’t give up screen rights to Mamma Mia! until the stage show had reached its pinnacle, Marc and Stephen Schwartz are very mindful of the right timing. But we’re dying to do it.” Platt told Variety that he and Wicked co-producer David Stone are currently in “early movie talks” with the studio. Winnie Holzman, who penned the Tony-nominated book for Wicked, will write the film’s screenplay. No casting has been mentioned.

Hot damn! This could either rule the world or suck hardcore. My guess is that they are going to go after the original Broadway stars to reprise their roles as Elphaba (Idina Menzel) and Glinda the Good (Kristin Chenoweth) but I would DIE if Megan Hilty was able to play Glinda in the movie version. She is such an amazing Broadway actress — I contend that she would be the best person to play Glinda. In any event, I hope that the producers do the story justice … it’s a great musical, it can be an amazing movie. This is deffo a movie to watch … again, I just hope they do it right.

Despite the dour faces that David and Victoria Beckham have been showing around town lately they are both having no trubs being asked to promote various products (that is, except for VB‘s denim line which seems to be dying a slow and painful death … but I digress). While VB is pimpin’ Allure mag, David Beckham is bizzy promoting the new Motorola H12 bluetooth headset which may come especially handy here in California now that it is against the law to drive and talk on the cell phone at the same time. Last weekend new photos of a topless Sienna Miller and Balthazar Getty made the rounds showing the couple kissing, hugging and all around canoodling on a boat in Italy … which set tongues wagging since Balthazar is still married to his wife Rosetta. It now appears that their little show of affection wasn’t just a one-time thing and nameless sources are coming to the new couple’s defense claiming that Balthazar‘s marriage has been over “for some time” … here are new photos of the couple (Seinazar?) engaged in the same lovey-doveyness on the balcony of their lovenest hotel room (also last weekend) in Positano, Italy:

Sienna Miller got slammed by some blogs after she was photographed smooching married Brothers & Sisters star Balthazar Getty in Italy last Friday. But a source tells Usmagazine.com: “Sienna is not a homewrecker.” Of Getty, 33, and his wife Rosetta (who welcomed their fourth child in 2007), the pal adds: “It’s been over with him and his wife for some time. I believe he’ll be making an announcement shortly” … The British actress — who recently split with actor Rhys Ifans — told London’s The Times, “I’m not this tragic figure. “My life is privileged,” Miller said. “And it’s exactly where I’m supposed to be. I make decisions. I take responsibility for them.”

Well, it’s pretty much all out in the open now so they’ll both have to take responsibility for their actions. There must be something in the air in Italy or maybe it’s her new relationship with Balthazar but Sienna Miller appears to have a hard time keeping her top on. A few weeks ago E!‘s Marc Malkin broke the news that Lance Bass has been seeing a new man — a personal trainer named Sebastian — for “some time” and altho the couple were keeping things “casual” they partied the night away at Tenjune and “closed the place down”. As far as I know, Lance and Sebastian (LaBastian?) have not been photographed together … until now. A Pink reader who wishes to maintain their anonymity (going by the cute name Princess Consuela Bananahammock) discovered that Lance and Sebastian created Facebook profiles where they posted pics and cutesy comments to one another (apparently Lance used the name “James Bass“). The profiles, I’m told, have since been stripped of all photos but not before this photo and these comments were saved:

Additionally, LaBastian were spotted in Provincetown, MA over the 4th of July holiday and were spied cuddling it up with one another. Woot! I’m happy to know that Lance has managed to score himself another hunk of a man so quickly after his break-up with Ben Thigpen (tho, the two have remained friends … Lance was partying at Tenjune with both his new dude Sebastian and his ex-dude Ben). I hope we get to see more of Lance and Sebastian … they make a handsome couple, don’t you think?

As you may recall, I’ve been in the market for a new car for the past couple of months and I think I’ve finally settled on my choice … but because the car is coming straight from the assembly line in Germany (I’m going with another VW) I have to wait until the end of next month for it to arrive here in SoCal. In the meantime, I sold my current Honda Accord to my friend Mark back in Michigan so the car has to be shipped back home. Since I’m basically car-less until the end of next month, I had to rent myself a vehicle to drive around in while I wait … and this is what I ended up with:

It’s hot, huh? This Ford Mustang is brand new, it’s got less than 500 miles on it and it’s all mine for the rest of the week. Since I’m heading off to NYC then Europe for a couple of weeks this Sunday, I’ll have to give it up again … but I think I’m gonna rent it again when I return. I kinda like having my own Batmobile :)

Other than this exciting news … not much else to report. David goes back to NYC tonight and I’ll have a few days to prepare for our excellent London/Paris trip next week! Woot!

Yeah … I dunno … these pics are OK but they’re a little off — weird, even. I’m not sure what is going on but many of Angelina‘s recent magazine covers have been pretty … fugs. Her cover for US Vanity Fair wasn’t all that hot, nor was her cover for Entertainment Weekly. At least these photos for Italian Vanity Fair have a classic look to them … I like them best of the her worst pics. Again, I’m not a fan of the greasy-shine look … it just doesn’t work for me … am I wrong here?

Here are a few photos of David Beckham and Vicki B. as they made their way out of Il Sole restaurant last night and despite the pleasure I normally get from posting pics of Becks and his robotic wife, these pics leave much to be desired. Could the crabby faces on Les Beckhams mean that they’ve finally grown tired of their celebrity?

Say it ain’t so! Could it be that the intense glare of the media spotlight, that the couple have built a career on exploiting, finally be too much for the famous couple and their family? Or, mebbe they were just having a bad night? This past weekend, Becks and his eldest son Brooklyn were spotted leaving Benihana Japanese restaurant (in Becks‘s phat Rolls Royce) and Brooks looked like he was fed up with his the constant attention from the paps, too:

The poor kids looks like he’s about to snap. It must be difficult having to deal with all that attention, especially at such a young age, but it’s the life his parents have chosen for him. I tend to have a hard time feeling sorry for celeb families like this because even tho they may be inconvenienced from time to time (or on a daily basis) they enjoy so much wealth and privilege that it’s hard to shed tears … especially when they work so hard to achieve that attention. Again, mebbe it was just a bad night … here’s hoping they all cheer up soon. Gloomy Gusses really mute all the potential hotness that we should be enjoying.

This past Saturday, July 12th, Heidi Montag embarked on a small mall tour here in SoCal making in-store appearances at the Glendale Galleria, the Brea Mall and the Westfield Mainplace at Santa Ana to not only unveil her the Club Collection line of her Heidiwood for Anchor Blue fashion line but to also meet and greet the fans who came out to see her. I understand that Heidi‘s boyfriend Spencer Pratt was also in the hiz this weekend at each of Heidi‘s in-store appearances … but being the shy guy that he is, he opted out of posing for any pics. Say what you will about Speidi, they are really good to their fans and take great pains to spend as much time with each person as possible. I know it’s easy to poke fun at their public persona (they oftentimes invite such criticism) but it is generally well-known among those folks who have met them that they are very sweet in person. It looks like everyone had a fun time hanging out with Heidi at Anchor Blue this weekend … I’m sorry I missed it ;)

The 5th season of Project Runway debuts tomorrow night at 9pm on Bravo and in addition to revealing the new cast of designers and synopses of every single episode for the entire upcoming season (which, I still contend, is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of), the network has released a preview video to promote the season premiere. Here is a short video of the new cast of designers entering the famed Project Runway work room at Parsons design school for the very first time:

Tim Gunn is featured in this vid as he welcomes the designers to the work room. The 2 minute clip also features some designer banter at their residence and a small portion of the judging process at the end of the challenge. I’m sure it’s a nice little preview for the season premiere ep but I’m holding off on watching anything until the show debuts tomorrow night. Woot! I can’t wait :)
