You’re The One That I ‘Wanted’
The TV Guide

Yesterday afternoon I got to spend some much needed time with Tracey and Zakiya for the first time in months. Poor Tracey has been laid up for the past 4 weeks after having gone thru shoulder surgery and she was really happy to have company. Princess Zakiya was just a complete doll … tho I am hugely disturbed by how fast she keeps growing. It wasn’t that long ago that she was barely crawling on the floor … these days, she’s barely riding Razor scooters — and she’s not even 3 years old yet! I’m telling you, my goddaughter is a GENIUS! Here are a few pics of Z playing with the Hulk Hands that I got for her:

I’m of the mind that there are no such things as boys toys and girls toys … and despite the fact that she has no idea who The Incredible Hulk is, I knew she’d love the Hulk Hands. We got to spend a few fun hours together … I’m really looking forward to Tracey’s full recovery … the poor woman has been cooped up for so long, I’m afraid she’s on the verge of turning into a crazy cat lady, minus the cats.

After my playdate with Tracey and Zakiya I met up with Sarah for a late night showing of Angelina Jolie‘s new movie Wanted:

Right off the bat, I have to stress that Russian director Timur Bekmambetov is a genius. He is so inventive and he has a really imaginative way of telling a story on screen. That being said, I didn’t really like Wanted as much as I loved his Russian films Night Watch and Day Watch. Wanted felt a bit like a watered down version of his vision and those of you who have seen his previous work prolly understand what I mean. That is not to say that Wanted is a bad or sub-standard film but having seen his previous work, Wanted left me wanting more. But what was presented as really effing cool. I’ve read a few reviews that liken the amazingness of the film to that of The Matrix when it first came out and I can totally see the connection … my response would be, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Trust me, if you liked Wanted, go out and pick up Night Watch and Day Watch and you will be blown away. All the cool stuff in Wanted shows up in these films but amped to the Nth degree. I wasn’t too thrilled with the ending but I did love the film. It’s visually very cool and the special effects are just impeccable. Action film fans will love it, I’m sure. I understand that Bekmambetov is working on the 3rd movie of the Night Watch trilogy, Twilight Watch … I really can’t wait to see that one. Sure, they’ll be a lot of subtitles to read but I’m telling you, his movies are mind-blowing.

Tonight, I’m meeting up with my friend Sherri and her childrens for a quick tete-a-tete before I head over to Sarah’s place for a little dinnerparty/sleep-over jamboree. Tara and Megan will be hanging out too … should be fun. It’s my last full day in Detroit, I fly back to LA tomorrow … I need some beach.

I saw this last night….the action was great, but the dialogue – not so much. But overall, for an action film, it wasn’t too bad!

  2. ginae says:

zakiya is a doll! i know i don’t have to tell you that, but i think she is just beautiful!!!! =]

  3. Winona says:

Princess Z is getting so big!!! And I agree – there are no “girls” and “boys” toys – clothes, either – my 22-month-old picked out two pairs of PJs for herself at Old Navy, one with rainbows and birds, and one with iguanas. Her choice!

I do want to see Wanted, but mainly because a pal of mine did stunts for it (Alicia Skirball)!

  4. Aimee says:

I just love that she’s rockin’ the “D”! Go Tigers!

  5. Alia says:

OMG…Princess Z is totally rockin those curls. She is gorgeous..
I myself can’t wait to watch Wanted cuz I’m a big Angie fan. Thanks for the review..at least I know now I can go ahead and watch it cuz I can always rely on you for a movie review.

Good Lord Princess Z is way too cute!

  7. Cindy says:

Sweet Fancy Moses Princess Z is adorable!

  8. A says:

ow, that little Princess Z is cuuuuuuute! She’s so lucky to have someone like you in her life, too. I keep telling my goddaughter that she needs to stop growing too. She’s 9 and I hate it. BUT she’s a great girl…but I digress.

As far as Wanted goes, I saw it on Saturday. I loved it! It was the kind of movie I needed to see right now. Angelina is SUCH a badass! I love her! She gave the best dialogue using only her eyes. Plus, that McAvoy guy is a dreamboat! I’m totally going to rent Day Watch and Night Watch.

  9. Hex says:

I am so buying those Hulk gloves under the premise that they are for my son.

  10. kasia says:

I haven’t seen Day Watch yet, but Night Watch was amazing. It had me from that first intense scene. Although the ending to that one was a bit weak as well.

I’m actually looking forward to seeing Wanted now :)

  11. Lelah says:

I really hated Wanted. The storyline was really laughable, it ruined the action for me.

  12. Lindsay says:

I love love love love the Night Watch series. As good as the movies are, the books are better. Final Watch, the fourth book, is due out on July 7th. From what i’ve heard so far, Twilight Watch is actually going to be filmed in English – quite possibly with a whole new cast.

  13. Eli says:

Wanted was amazing, im not a big fan of action movies, but Wanted deff. had me on the edge of my seat from beggining to end. and, i loved the ending cause it wasnt one of those “typical” ones in which they end up falling in love and live happily ever after.

  14. Weedy McStoned says:

Princess Zakiya is a little beauty! She seems so have such a cute personality.

  15. Erin says:

I totally saw the little princess at IKEA in MI not too long ago. So cute.

  16. I says:

I have to get my hands on the hands! My best friend of 20 years is completely afraid of the Hulk…she can’t even look at a picture of him..Just for craps and giggles I’ll drive through Burger King right now cause it’s plastered with Hulk. My husband and I torment her and now we have her entire family in on the fun..She was so upset when she heard they were coming out with a new Hulk movie. 30 years old and afraid of a green guy….too funny!

  17. Wanted was a nice breath of fresh air from all the overkill on Sci-fi and Fantasy films, not to mention sequels of this that or the other thing. I welcomed it’s difference, it was really great, and James McAvoy was just incredible, I really enjoyed his performance!!

BTW… Zakiya is so cute, I love her hair!! :)

  18. Ibby says:

AWW Zakiya is such a doll!!!! I love her curls!! She’s too cute!

  19. Cynthia says:

I saw Wanted with my 11-year-old son this weekend and enjoyed it. I thought the fight scenes were well choreographed and the plot plausible, but the dialogue was weak! Thanks for the recommendation to see his other flicks. Can’t wait to see what he’s capable of!

  20. dcdiva says:

miss z is beautiful! and im so jealous of the curls!!! and im so glad that you got her a ‘cool’ toy and didnt worry about if it’s for girls or boys. that’s so dumb. ive always been a girly-girl and had tons of barbies and easy-bake ovens when i was growing up, but i also had racing cars and star wars x-wing fighters. stereotyping doesn’t do anybody any good and leads to closed minds, imo *climbs down off the soapbox* im excited to see wanted; it so looks like my kind of action flick! i don’t the director or his other movies but now i want to check them out too. now if i can just remember what the heck i did with my blockbuster card . . .
