You have to defend yourselves, because people are fuckin stupid. I live in Dallas/Fort Worth and some bitch robbed us and stole retarded stuff. (our vacuum cleaner…our 20 year old VCR…lots of stuff..And a curling iron!!!!) Seriously…we had prolly 200 bucks in change (im a waitress..i get change all the time..) guns….and they didnt take it!!! why didnt they take something worth taking? Bastards.

I don’t understand how bearing guns make people feel protected. It’s a cultural issue, you know. I live in another country, where everybody has the right to own firearms, and believe me, those things don’t protect anyone. They always make things worse. They might make people feel safe, but the real deal is that nothing is more dangerous than showing a gun to a gunned criminal -shooting is granted. Most people here feel safer having security systems at home than having firearms, because having a gun means using a gun. And using a gun means a lot of trouble… specially when there are children in the house.

finally, the right to own a gun as a law abiding citizen. you think criminals obtain guns in a legal manner anyway? criminals steal them and don’t get them licensed in their names, duh.

i love how we pick and choose which part of the constitution we will recognize. the second amendment is well defended as today’s decision illustrates (thank you Justice Kennedy you swinger, you!), yet the Equal Protection Clause of the 5th and 14th Amendment mean diddly squat –> translation, the government can be as racist and discriminatory as it wants, so long as there is no physical proof, just pretend like you didn’t mean to or better yet convince yourself you aren’t biased! racism/sexism/ageism/genderism and guns YAY!!!!

and to punisher: really? leave the country? you are sooo clever! god, can you share more of your wisdom?

My personal feeling is that while people have the right to bear arms we all also have the right to life and liberty so therefore there should be a screening process to keep them out of the hands of criminals and crazies. I propose that you should have to be able to a, recite the full text of the Second Amendment or b, name all 9 Supreme Court justices!

I completely agree. I too, as a student of Poli Sci, realize this was the right decision (though I agree there should be a screening process). I also disagree with the decision regarding child rapists. Though I am a semi-conservative, I am joined in this opionion by many lib-dems – including Obama. Thank you for posting this. Reading through the comments, etc., it shows how these decisions affect us and certainly cross party lines. It also shows that while we enjoy reveling in the day’s latest goss, there are some things that are more important.

Thank you very much for making me feel like I’m not the only liberal who thinks this is a good thing. I also studied history in college (and am going to law school this fall) and I think that it’s a huge step for SCOTUS. I think there guns should be legal as long as there is a screening process and licensing law.
