‘Hellboy II: The Golden Army’ Premieres

As part of the 2008 Film Independant’s Los Angeles Film Festival, Hellboy II: The Golden Army (which was directed by movie genius Guillermo del Toro) had its Hollywood premiere at the Mann Village Westwood theater in Westwood, CA yesterday afternoon. Here are a few pics of the principal stars along with their amazing director on the red carpet at yesterday’s premiere:

I think it’s very safe to say that Guillermo del Toro is prolly one of, if not the, most talented and inventive movie directors on the scene right now (tho, Russian director Timur Bekmambetov who made the phenomenal movies Night Watch, Day Watch and the new Angelina Jolie movie Wanted [which opened in theaters this weekend] has to be high on that list as well) and has proven himself so fully to me that I will absolutely make time to see every movie he directs. I was very impressed with his direction in Hellboy but it was his Spanish-language film Pan’s Labyrinth that really sold me. To me, he is the Neil Gaiman (author of Neverwhere, Stardust, American Gods and more) of movie-making … and by that I mean, an insanely talented artist who has yet to break into the mainstream (I’m not even saying that it is necessary that either of them break into the mainstream, I’m just saying that they are so good at what they do that I truly feel that once people catch wind of their talent they may blow up big time). I’m not a huge Hellboy fan but I just love seeing del Toro‘s imagination come alive on the big screen (and from what I’ve seen in the promos for Hellboy II, some of the influence of Pan’s Labyrinth looks like it made its way into the film). According to IMDB, he has also signed on to direct The Hobbit, which just thrills me to no end. Hellboy II doesn’t open in theaters until July 11 (the eve of my birthday) but I’m telling you … make plans to check it out. I’m sure it’ll be visually phenomenal … I’m totally willing to bank on that.

The One Where Mayerston Snuggle In The Backseat

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer have been having themselves a nice little European vacay this week as the couple have been seen popping up in Amsterdam and London together. John has been playing shows in these cities and Jen, like a nice girlfriend/groupie, has been tagging along to lend moral support, cheer him on, take photos and (I suspect) give the guy some nookie along the way. Here are a couple pics of the happy (miserable?) couple clutching one another in the backseat of their car after having had dinner at La Famiglia in London last night:

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer continued to keep their romance firmly off the radar Saturday. Slipping unnoticed into the musician’s backstage area at the Hard Rock Calling festival in London’s Hyde Park, Aniston stood quietly in the wings while the “Georgia Calling” singer ran through a 45-minute set in front of an audience of ten of thousands. But the actress wasn’t just there to lend moral support: wearing a black-and-white floral halter-neck top and faded flared jeans, Aniston busily snapped away with her camera to record Mayer’s on-stage performance. It was the second time in two days that Aniston had joined Mayer for one of his gigs. On Friday, she took a seat in the upper level of the gritty south London venue, the Brixton Academy, before leaving with Mayer at around 11:30 p.m. Earlier this week, the couple united in Amsterdam, where she was promoting the upcoming Marley and Me (with Owen Wilson) and Mayer was performing. In keeping with the low-key theme of her London visit, she never once ventured into the Hard Rock VIP area and quietly left the show without anyone noticing … Mayer is due to perform at the Glastonbury Festival on Sunday. His European tour then moves onto Copenhagen.

Well, they couldn’t have kept their movements entirely off the radar, how else would People be able to report their activities. I think it’s cute that Jen is turning into a Mayer superfan … this is the most active we’ve seen her with a fella in a very long time. I honestly still don’t get her complete and utter hatred for the public spotlight, especially after her many years working towards achieving TV fame. David and I spent a lot of time watching Friends reruns when I was with him in NYC this past week (man cannot live on Golden Girls reruns alone, I’m afraid) and I had almost forgotten how funny and outgoing Jennifer Aniston seemed back in her hey day. Since the show ended its run, Jen has really shunned much of the public’s attention towards her, which kinda reads as an “Eff You” to all the fans who made her such a wealthy person. But, even still, she deserves happiness again … especially after the whole Brangelina thing … it’s nice seeing her happy with John Mayer … at least, I think she’s happy with John Mayer. After all, she is deigning to be seen in public again … that’s really something.

It must be Sunday!
Hugh Jackman Enjoys St. Tropez … Again

Here are a few new photos of Aussie hottie Hugh Jackman frolicking, once again, at the beach at Club 55 in St. Tropez with his son Oscar this weekend:

For the past few weekends, we’ve been treated to new photos of an oftentimes half-nekkid and wet Hugh Jackman (tho, we’ve seen him fully dressed as well) enjoying the comforts of various posh beaches and quite parks in Europe and Australia with his family. So while he is hard at work on various projects, we see that he still makes a concerted effort to spend quality time with his wife and kids … which only magnifies his hotness tenfold. I’m not sure that this bounty of mancandy will last much longer (depending on whether or not he returns to Australia where winter is just getting underway) but I’m happily enjoying what we’ve been getting thus far.

She spits! She punches! She cusses folks out!
Amy Winehouse Does Glastonbury

Amy Winehouse, who on Friday night successfully delivered a live performance for Nelson Mandela at his 90th birthday celebration in Hyde Park, London, manged to keep it together long enough to make her scheduled appearance at the Glastonbury Festival last night. Having heard some of her performance from Glastonbury last night, I don’t think she was in quite the same shape that she was for Mandela on Friday night … she slurred her way thru the lyrics and stumbled on and off the stage — which isn’t all that surprising — but the real fun came when she started getting boos from the crowd:

AMY WINEHOUSE made PETE DOHERTY look angelic last night after punching a fan, spitting chewing gum into the crowd and calling KANYE WEST a c*** on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. Her obnoxious behaviour tainted what should have been a magical comeback set. The question on everybody’s lips was whether or not she would turn up sober and it was admittedly hard to tell if she was intoxicated, as her stage persona is to play up to her rebellion. But coming onstage with a beaming smile suggested she was over the moon to be in the spotlight again after her hospital spell last week. The songstress started with promise, looking radiant in a blue cocktail dress which squeezed her boobs into an impressive cleavage and detracted attention from her super slim limbs. She sang her heart out during classic tracks Tears Dry On Their Own, Wake Up Alone and Back To Black … But things turned sour when she spoke about hubby BLAKE coming out of jail and fans booed. Amy defended him, saying: “Don’t boo. I’ll find your phone and ring your mum and tell them about your bad manners. Manners cost you nothing.” She then rambled on about never having loved a white man before, adding: “When Blake came along he bashed me over the head with a cricket bat. Not literally.” The performance became more about her declarations of love than entertaining her supporters. Before launching into Hey Little Rich Girl, the precocious star went on a tirade about JAY-Z. She ordered the crowd to welcome him and told everyone to be grateful they weren’t getting Kanye West as he is a “c***”. Amy then played up to the cameras during finale track Rehab, jumping off stage, stumbling around and lapping up the attention from adoring fans. But the final straw came when the troubled star shockingly punched an audience member. Glasto boss MICHAEL EAVIS defended Amy saying: “The man deserved it. He grabbed Amy’s breasts as she went past him.” However another fan in the front row said it was actually a GIRL called Claire that was hit and she only tried to give the singer a high five.

After the jump, watch video of Amy‘s attack on whoever it was that she threw a punch at …

Or, vice versa
Ryan Takes Abbie To Meet His Friends

Well now … it would seem that Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish are getting much more comfortable venturing out in public together these days. The happy couple were spotted lookin’ all happy and cozy together at a friend’s BBQ in LA yesterday, which I believe was the first time (that I know of) the couple stepped out publicly among friends as a couple. Of course they may have previously attended private events with friends together since they got together (it’s unclear exactly when that was … you may recall the couple were spotted canoodling in Texas by a Pink reader back when they were filming Stop-Loss together and while Ryan was still married to Reese) but I understand they have taken great pains to stay as much on the down-low as possible for a majority of their relationship thus far. It looks like those days are over … here are a few pics of Rabbie at yesterday’s BBQ party — where Abbie felt it entirely appropriate to show up wearing her pjs:

I say, good for them! While it is sad that the fairytale romance between Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe came to an end (pause to pour one out for Witherppe), it was only a matter of time before they both moved on. Ryan and Abbie appear to be very happy together (deciding to recently unveil their love publicly at an LA area CVS pharmacy) and, if the tabs are to be believed, Reese and Jake Gyllenhaal are shacking up together. Here’s hoping that Rabbie are able to find happiness and contentment with one another for years to come … unless there can be a reconciliation for Witherppe and then that would get my vote :)

Imagine if there had been blogging back in his day
Elvis Presley: Behind The Scenes

The Daily Mail has published a slew of never-before-seen candid photos of Elvis Presley shot early on in his career by photographer Alfred Wertheimer (solely in black and white because his record company, RCA, didn’t want to waste color film on him) which are exactly the kind of pics that would’ve made their way around the blogs if there had been such a thing during Elvis‘s time. Here are a few of the candid and intimate pics of the King of Rock ‘N Roll, Elvis Presley:

Elvis Presley remains the most famous and most loved rock star of all time. But for almost all of his 21 years in the spotlight, until his death in 1977 at the age of 42, he remained a distant enigma to his fans. Surrounded by a mob of minders, he hardly ever gave interviews and virtually the only published photographs of him were those carefully selected by his manager, ‘Colonel’ Tom Parker, to show Elvis in a wholesome light. But at the very beginning of his career, when his first hit, Heartbreak Hotel, was bounding up the U.S. charts, things were different. Wanting all the publicity they could get for their new singer, Elvis’s record company, RCA, hired freelance photographer Alfred Wertheimer to spend a few weeks following the young star around. So, in March 1956, Wertheimer went to work. Meeting Elvis at a New York TV studio, he later hung around his hotel suite, observed him recording Don’t Be Cruel and Hound Dog, photographed him alone and unnoticed on the New York streets, and then went out on tour with him where the groupies were already beginning to line up. He shot almost 4,000 black-and-white, fly-on-the-wall frames of the singer on the very cusp of unimaginable fame, many of which have rarely been seen … It was the last time the private Elvis, the ‘real’ Elvis, who was even prepared to have the photographer follow him into his bathroom and bedroom, would be caught on camera in this way. By the early summer of 1956, a veil had fallen between Elvis and his fans. Parker had decided no one from the media would ever get this close to his star again. From that moment, Elvis entered a cocoon, locked out from the real world by his enormous fame and his manipulative manager. But why were all Wertheimer’s photographs in black and white? Didn’t he take any colour shots? The answer will surprise. No, he didn’t. “Don’t waste colour film on him,” Wertheimer was told by the RCA publicity department. Colour stock was expensive, and as the record bosses had decided Elvis was probably just a flash in the pan, it would be a needless extravagance.

Had there been blogs back in the day, I imagine they’d have much to say about Elvis in his bathing suit (ZOMG! Elvis looks so hawt in his shorty shorts!) or brandishing a gun (Elvis has gone all G-Unit with his new toy) or his argyle socks (The Big E would fit in perfectly on Gossip Girl). I’m not a big Elvis fan by any means but these are fascinating pics. I imagine there must be many more intimate photos of the man out there … somewhere. If these pics are just coming out, what else is waiting to be unveiled? I find it so interesting that there is still much that we can learn about an icon that has been loved and adored for decades. I wonder if there are any more half-nekkid pics comin’ our way?

Well, more like their 'Kabbalah On'
Madonna And Co. Get Their ‘Church’ On

With rumors swirling at a fever pitch that Madonna‘s marriage to Guy Ritchie is (yet again) on the rocks, it makes sense that Maddy would want to regroup and center herself at her place of worship. Actually, Madonna makes it a habit of attending services at the Kabbalah Centre of whatever city she’s in on a weekly basis but maybe this weekend’s visit is especially necessary for her considering the reports going around about the alleged dissolution of her marriage. Here are a few pics of Madonna, her children Lourdes, Rocco & David Banda and her daughter’s father Carlos Leon making their way into the Kabbalah Centre in NYC last night:

With no wedding ring on her finger and no husband in sight, Madonna and her three children – and Carlos Leon, 11-year-old daughter Lourdes’s biological dad – visited Manhattan’s Kabbalah Centre Friday night for Sabbath services and returned again on Saturday. So where was Guy Ritchie, rumored to be splitting with Madonna? British tabloid reports had him in London, but headed to New York this weekend. Britain’s Sun has an unnamed source saying Ritchie seeks to keep the couple’s marriage going, although Madonna is focused on rehearsals for her upcoming world tour. On Thursday, it was reported in the London Times Madonna had consulted noted divorce British attorney Fiona Shackleton, who had represented Paul McCartney and Prince Charles in their bitter divorces from, respectively, Heather Mills and Princess Diana. On Friday night, Madonna’s group [arrived at the Kabbalah Centre] in three waves … The service had just about ended, with a dinner about to begin. Madonna stayed some 20 minutes before leaving with Rocco and David for her home on Central Park West, according to a source. On Saturday, Madonna and her three children returned to the center for services. Her presence didn’t create any kind of stir, as congregants gave her hardly any notice. With Lourdes at her side, Madonna sat in a front-row seat, wearing a black baseball cap and tight black T-shirt. David, in a white baseball cap and Rocco sporting a Yankees cap, spent much of the time playing quietly with some other children on the floor of the sanctuary. A bar mitzvah took place, and at its conclusion Rocco joined all the congregants in throwing Sunkist fruit gem candies at the bar mitzvah boy. At the service’s conclusion, Lourdes wrapped her arms around her mother’s neck and gave her a big, long hug.

People magazine also reports that Maddy is in NYC right now to prepare for her upcoming Sticky & Sweet World Tour, sticking to a regiment where she works out at home in the morning before heading out to a studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to rehearse with her dancers for the tour. I don’t imagine that all the speculation about her marriage helps out with all of the stuff she’s got going on in her life these days but I’m not ready to jump aboard the divorce bandwagon just yet. Madge and Guy have been rumored to be heading for divorce for years so these latest reports just sound like more of the same. In any event, Madonna‘s got work to do and she’s gonna do it, no matter what difficulties come her way.

... and out of her top
Amy Winehouse Slips Up

While Amy Winehouse managed to successfully pull herself together enough to perform for Nelson Mandela at his 90th birthday celebration concert in Hyde Park, London last night, she was unsuccessful in keeping one of her nipples entirely tucked away inside her top … try not to be shocked, will you?

Granted her entire boob didn’t pop out of her dress but she still managed, in my estimation, to join the hallowed ranks of the esteemed celebrity members of the nip-slip club. After the jump, an uncensored picture of Amy‘s slip up …

The TV Guide
Delayed Gratification

The good news is that I made it safe and sound to Detroit, MI last night … the bad news is that my 2 hour flight turned into a 6 hour nightmare. Remember all that weather I talked about missing when I was in NYC? Yeah, scratch that. Because of the weather and the insane ineptness of Northwest Airlines, my flight got delayed by 2 hours and then upon arrival, my journey was further delayed by a 35 minute wait on the tarmac and then another 35 minute wait for the luggage to be removed from the plane. I should’ve arrived in Detroit last night at 10pm … instead I didn’t get to my parents house until 1:30am.

Thankfully, I brought along David Sedaris‘s new book When You Are Engulfed in Flames and that was my saving grace. I read about 80% of the book thus far and it kept me in stitches the entire, miserable trip last night:

I haven’t read all of Sedaris‘s books but I deffo plan to. I kept laughing out loud all night long … let me tell you, this book kept me from wanting to die.

This evening, I’m meeting up with Sarah and Mark for dinner (there is talk of going to Little Tree) and then we’re prolly gonna head out to see Reggie’s band play later on … but not before I spend some time with my folks this afternoon. It’s nice to be home :)
