As another one of the many hockey fans I can honestly say that Sean Avery is a disgrace to hockey. I loved the Rangers my entire life but when they got this idiot on their team they went from playing a professional game to ‘IM NOT TOUCHING YOU, IM NOT TOUCHING YOU’
Maybe Avery should stick with fashion since he seems to love undressing the ladies! Working at Vogue he at least wont make a joke of the sport of hockey!

Sean Avery is one of the biggest goons in hockey and pne of the biggest jerks to boot. We are talking about a guy who said he doesn’t like to play in Toronto (he was born just outside of Toronto) because he doesn’t like hockey obsessed fans well I hate to break it to him but those are the people that buy tickets and if doesn’t like fans like that then I think he should stay away from Hockey and definatly out of Canada.

I just had to comment on this one, and I will be regurgitating what most of the other posters have said.

First, to Sarah, while he may be a decent guy in your opinion, his antics on and off the ice make him the most classless player in the NHL.

His comments and antics towards Brodeur were disgusting, but typical of this lowlife’s behaviour. He is the biggest douchebag currently in the NHL (and considering how much I hate Downie for his dirty hit on McAmmond that’s saying a lot!) , and a disgrace to my country, and to the game. We definitely do NOT want him back in Canada. He can rot in New York.

I hope you do a little more research on the next person you proclaim your favourite person. (And likening him to Beckham is a joke, Beckham’s an amazing soccer player, Avery is average at best. )

Fans and fellow players hate the guy for a reason, and I’m glad so many of you spoke up and posted about what a piece of crap he really is.

I was so happy when I read the comments on this post, because I came on here all ready to tell everyone and Trent what this guy is really about. Thank God other people have already ripped Sean apart.

It made me stare at the screen aghast to see the words “I love this man” written about Sean. I know Trent posts about hockey from time to time when it has to do with the Red Wings (and rightfully so, it’s his hometown team), but I feel it is my duty as a person who loves hockey perhaps more than he loves gossip to tell Trent that this is not a man who should be idolized, or promoted. Trent: this is not a man to be admired, no matter what shoes he’s wearing. He is all the previous comments’ words and so much more. Firstly, he is a racist; he once called a black opponent a monkey during a game. He has made fun of an opposing player because that player had cancer. He was mentioned as possibly having ties to that prostitute that was with Eliot Spitzer. He has been voted the most hated man in the NHL by his peers. He has been fined for his actions and off-ice comments numerous times, and his own teammates have no respect for him. His team’s backup goalie this past season said that if Avery ever did what he did to Brodeur to him, that he would knock all his teeth out and more. This man is the epitome of cocky, and he’s not even all that good. This man is one of the few players who continually give hockey a bad rep. The vast majority in the hockey world, for good reason, do not respect him and I hope you consider twice before glorifying him again.

from what i’ve heard, sean avery goes above and beyond just being an asshole on the ice. it’s one thing to be an agitator, and many agitators do it well but he is much worse than that. i’ll admit that he is a good player but i would never want him on my team. and i agree with the person who said that many NHL players are into fashion. avery thinks he’s so original and different for liking fashion but many other players have their own clothing lines and stores, etc. he’s not that awesome.

From a die hard hockey fan, SEAN AVERY IS A DISGRACE TO THE NHL!! no team wants him! I heard the Ranger’s don’t even want to sign him again so it’s a good thing he has a fall back career. The way he acted in the playoffs to Brodeur is an absolute DISGRACE!! If cheating is his idea of winning then mazel tov to him. Trent your awesomness but seriously stick with commenting on celebs unless your going to do your homework on the NHL. This guy is an ABSOLUTE disgrace, it’s a wonder Brodeur didn’t punch him in the handshake line, let alone not shake his hand. And don’t worry Canada we don’t blame you for Brodeur but can you please let us keep Crosby to balance it out ;)

Man, Sean Avery is such a jackass. He may look decent, but damn watch his interviews and you will see how much of an asshole he is. Seriously, I lost all of my respect (which was quite a miniscule amount) for him when he did that whole shielding business with Martin Brodeur. Complete disgrace.

Being that I am a terribly deep hockey fan. Sean Avery is a disgrace to the game. He makes the NHL look like a league of douche bags. Oh and have you heard about the “Sean Avery Rule” thats now in effect because he likes to hog the goal?

He should get sent back to Canada, not like they want him anyway.

Come on people … lay off!

Almost everyone on here has been saying “I know hockey, he’s a douche!” … and yah, on ice? TOTAL douche. The man trash talks like no other. Among other things.

How many of you have actually met him … and for those that have, how recently was it?

I’ve been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time with him (as my boyfriend is a good friend of his) and he is a fantastic guy …. total 180 from how he behaves on the ice. He’s honestly one of the most respectful, kind, and fun-loving (in a good way) people I’ve ever met.

And for the record … yes, I DO know hockey. My father played pro, I played all of growing up, and my boyfriend plays pro. It’s a huge part of my life.

Just goes to show you, you can’t always believe what you read, or see on TV … and remind you that people aren’t always what you expect them to be!
