Delayed Gratification
The good news is that I made it safe and sound to Detroit, MI last night … the bad news is that my 2 hour flight turned into a 6 hour nightmare. Remember all that weather I talked about missing when I was in NYC? Yeah, scratch that. Because of the weather and the insane ineptness of Northwest Airlines, my flight got delayed by 2 hours and then upon arrival, my journey was further delayed by a 35 minute wait on the tarmac and then another 35 minute wait for the luggage to be removed from the plane. I should’ve arrived in Detroit last night at 10pm … instead I didn’t get to my parents house until 1:30am.
Thankfully, I brought along David Sedaris’s new book When You Are Engulfed in Flames and that was my saving grace. I read about 80% of the book thus far and it kept me in stitches the entire, miserable trip last night:

I haven’t read all of Sedaris’s books but I deffo plan to. I kept laughing out loud all night long … let me tell you, this book kept me from wanting to die.
This evening, I’m meeting up with Sarah and Mark for dinner (there is talk of going to Little Tree) and then we’re prolly gonna head out to see Reggie’s band play later on … but not before I spend some time with my folks this afternoon. It’s nice to be home :)

I love david sedaris too. I actually prefer listening to his books on my mp3 player—they make me laugh so hard I cry on the subway. Def worth a try, he’s a great reader.

LOVE LOVE LOVE DAVID SEDARIS. Definitely get your hands on “Me Talk Pretty One Day”. You can also YouTube him on David Letterman doing a hilarious reading about catheters.
Also, his sister, Amy, is brilliant. She has a coffee table/recipe/hosting book called “I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence” that I cannot recommend highly enough.

That book is sooooo good. I just got done reading it. I couldn’t read the last essay “The Smoking Section” because I’m just quitting smoking and it’s too hard to read without going insane. All for the best though!
I recommend for your reading pleasure My Life on the Pink Carpet – Leslie Jordan. It’s so funny and revealing.

David Sedaris’s writing is pure genius. I’ve only read the first 2 essays of this book so far but I plan on attempting to read it all tonight.
But like other people said make sure you check out Amy Sedaris’s hospitality book if you already haven’t and definitely read some stuff by Augusten Burroughs.

You have to read “Naked”. It’s his first book and by FAR the best!

I am gonna have to agree with the previous poster about his books on audio. Even more hilarious when you listen to them.

Read everything David has written, and his sister Amy’s book, ‘I Like You’
if you ever ever get the chance to meet him, do it, he’s one of the sweetest people in the whole world, and amazingly interesting to talk with.

read Naked. immediately!

Seconding the suggestion to read Augusten Burroughs’ books, but don’t start with his latest. His latest doesn’t have anything in common with his older work & you won’t understand it until you’ve read his other stuff.

I’m reading this book right now and I LOVE it so far. You should definitely snag a copy of “Me Talk Pretty One Day”, it is hilarious. David Sedaris is such an incredible writer. Love him. Love you!

He is touring all over doing book readings right now. His work is fantastic when he reads it (his audio books are a must).

OMg. Northwest from New York to Detroit ALWAYS gets delayed. So annoying. But Sedaris is awesome.
