‘The Dark Knight’ Gets Reviewed

As I expected, the movie is gonna kick all ass
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Rolling Stone magazine movie critic Peter Travers has reviewed the new Batman sequel The Dark Knight, giving the film 3 1/2 out of 4 stars, and has posted it online for your reading pleasure. I will post only the introductory portion of the review for those of you who do not want to be spoiled:

Heads up: a thunderbolt is about to rip into the blanket of bland we call summer movies. The Dark Knight, director Christopher Nolan’s absolute stunner of a follow-up to 2005’s Batman Begins, is a potent provocation decked out as a comic-book movie. Feverish action? Check. Dazzling spectacle? Check. Devilish fun? Check. But Nolan is just warming up.

Sounds pretty positive thus far … if you want to read the rest of the extensive Rolling Stone review (chock full of plot spoilers) then read on …

Celebrate With Shoes

Britney Spears style
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

After winning back over-night visitation of her young sons Sean Preston and Jayden James in LA Family Court yesterday, Britney Spears did what any person in a celebratory mood would do … she got her ass to shoe shopping. Here are a few pics of Brit Brit causing a ruckus as she made her exit out of the Fred Segal boutique in West Hollywood, CA yesterday afternoon:

Unfortch it looks like Britters is gonna hafta deal with the crush of on-lookers no matter how uncrazy she becomes but at least she’s getting followed around doing nice and normal things rather than insane and trashy things (remember the days of yore when Brit would make routine visits to various public restrooms barefoot?). I say, if Britney Spears wants to pick up some new shoes after winning in court than she should be allowed to do so! The woman deserves anything she wants now that she’s no longer a walking trainwreck. Enjoy your shoes, Brit, you’ve earned them.

Camila Alves Wouldn’t Change A Thing

She <3s Matthew Just The Way He Is
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Despite the unfortunate reports going around that tomcat Matthew McConaughey was fooling around on his pregs girlfriend Camilla Alves on his recent trip to Nicaragua, Matthew’s older brother Rooster McConaughey (one of the stars of truTV’s Black Gold) tells In Touch magazine that Camilla loves Matthew just the way he is. Having seen numerous photos of the younger McConaughey sans shirt, I can totally understand her feelings:

Despite recent reports that Matthew McConaughey has been flirting with women in Nicaragua while his pregnant girlfriend, Camila Alves, stews at home, his big brother insists that the couple is perfectly happy together. “Camila loves him for him. He’s a free spirit and she gets it,” Rooster McConaughey, who stars on the new truTV reality show Black Gold, tells In Touch. “She knows what it’s like being around a famous guy. She’s the salt of the earth. You ain’t gonna get better than that!” In fact, the mother-to-be, 25, was overheard gushing about Matthew, 38, and their child at LA’s Privé Salon on June 18. “Camila was saying how she and Matthew don’t know the baby’s sex yet because they want to be surprised,” an insider tells In Touch. “She looked heavily pregnant, but very excited and happy!” Matthew, voted In Touch’s biggest party animal in 2006, admits, “I earned that title.” Matthew has some odd habits: The actor brushed his teeth on a street in Malibu in 2006.

I imagine it’s not easy being the girlfriend of Matthew McConaughey … he strikes me as a bit of a wild child. But, to her credit (and our detriment), she manged to get him in the habit of wearing a shirt in public more often than not so I guess she knows what she’s doing. I just hope that they can stay happy together. With a new baby on the way, there can be some stressful and emotional things to endure. For her sake, I hope that Matthew is good with the follow-thru once the baby is born.

PS: Random fun fact — Rooster McConaughey named his son Miller Lyte … after his favorite beer. I can’t wait to hear that Camilla and Matthew named their child Bud Weiser if it’s a boy, Coors if it’s a girl.

Fashion Forward … Make That ‘Left Wing’

Hockey + Vogue magazine = Sean Avery
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

It looks like someone else is lookin’ to give David Beckham a run for the title of most fashionable sports star. Sean Avery, Left Wing for the New York Rangers hockey team, has such a love of fashion that he thought it would be fun to take an internship at Vogue magazine. And, because he did such a great job as an intern, he was promoted to guest editor of mensvogue.com in just a few short weeks. Now, I’m not entirely sure what Avery’s fashion pedigree is or what makes him qualified to take on such a lofty position at such an esteemed fashion magazine … but I love it nonetheless. Here are a few pics of Sean Avery hanging out in the closet (as it were) at the offices of Men’s Vogue magazine:

Looks like hockey star and Vogue intern Sean Avery is climbing the publishing ladder with remarkable agility, advancing from lowly intern to guest editor at mensvogue.com in just a few short weeks. In an online diary for the site, the New York Ranger gets shirtless in the Vogue fashion closet and dishes about his unlikely passion. “To me it’s simple: I like clothes. Always have,” he says. “I don’t watch sports. I don’t read about sports … Over breakfast in hotels when the Rangers are on the road, I read the Style section in The New York Times.” And Sean, who swapped his million-dollar Rangers salary for minimum wage (for the summer, at least), reveals that money’s not everything, waxing philosophical about the creative reward he experienced assisting on his first photo shoot. “As I watched the shoot progress,” he writes, “I had to wonder: Was the feeling this designer had — the pride of having his creations shot for the pages of Vogue — anything like the feeling I had after we beat the Devils in round one? … Was a young woman’s anticipation of a night on the town in her favorite new dress just a different version of a 12-year-old boy watching his favorite player No. 16 dominate New Jersey in five games? The world may never know — but that’s what I think.”

OMG … I love this guy. It sounds like this stint for Vogue magazine is the perfect job for a professional hockey player that neither watches nor reads about sports and pontificates about the connection between a woman’s anticipation of a night on the town and a young boy’s fascination with watching hockey. Seriously … he is my new favorite person ever. But wait … there are even more photos to be had of the stocky Left Wing New York Ranger “working” at the offices of Men’s Vogue

‘Shear Genius’ Returns With Season 2

Cut. It. Out.
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Former Charlie’s Angels star Jaclyn Smith made a personal appearance on Military Island in Times Square here in NYC yesterday for a kick-off event in celebration of the second season of the Bravo competitive reality TV show Shear Genius. Here are a few pics of Jaclyn at yesterday’s event who not only talked up her new show on Bravo but also dished to Extra TV about the possibility of a real Charlie’s Angels reunion movie:

Shear Genius host Jaclyn Smith broke news to “Extra” about good friend Farrah Fawcett and about a possible Charlie’s Angels reunion. As for Fawcett, who’s been waging a war against cancer, Smith declared, “She’s doing great. She’s holding her own and she is strong and I’m proud of her. She is fighting …” Smith confirmed that ALL the original Angels are interested in revisiting the roles that made them 70’s sex symbols! “We’d like to do it if it’s right … If we have a script that is ‘today,’ it would be fun. I think to bring us back together for the right reason,” she said.

Woot! A Charlie’s Angels reunion like this would be awesome … as much as I liked the modern Charlie’s Angels movies that starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, I would love to see the original Angels getting together again. It’s great to hear that Farrah is doing well. I just love her. Anyways … I’m also excited for the season 2 premiere of Shear Genius on Bravo tonight … as much as I don’t really care about “hair care”, I think that Shear Genius is a fun show that makes it seem interesting (in the same way that Top Chef makes cooking interesting as well). Besides, it’ll be a good show to tide me over until Project Runway returns on July 15th!

After The Rain

The TV Guide
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Yesterday afternoon was a pretty miserable day here in NYC … until a rainstorm broke out midday and washed away all of the gross humidity. It’s so funny … I’m usually very accustomed to seeing rain just fall out of the sky, randomly on any given day … but because there really isn’t any weather to speak of in SoCal (I don’t think it’s rained in months) it’s become a novelty to me. I kinda miss it … I really miss thunderstorms … but I’m getting off point. After the rain, the weather cooled off considerably so it didn’t feel quite so bad when we went out last night.

I met up with some folks from Elle magazine to chat for a bit last night because I wanted to meet and thank in person Erin for helping me with the Project Runway Finale Fashion Show I got to attend with Nina Garcia earlier this year. We had a nice time last night … just gabbing and getting to know one another.

After drinks, David and I grabbed some food from a great place called Aja and then we might’ve picked up some Tastee-D-Lite on the way home.

Tonight I’m heading out to see Liz Phair at the Hiro Ballroom where she will be doing the first of two shows in celebration of the release of her re-release of Exile on Guyville. I am very excited and will do my best to snap some fun pics to share tomorrow. Hope you’re beating the heat wherever you are!!!
