Kristin Davis Visits Jerusalem

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Sex and the City star Kristin Davis has made her way to the Holy Land this week to do some promo work for Ahava skin care products, which she is the spokesmodel for. Here are a couple pics of Kristin upon arrival in Jerusalem this week and a few more pics of KD making her way about town:

In “Sex and the City,” her character converts out of love for her Jewish husband. But in her first visit to the Jewish State, Kristin Davis refused to say if that was a case of art imitating life. The 43-year-old actress toured Jerusalem’s Old City on Tuesday as part of her campaign to promote Israel’s Ahava skin products. At a news conference, she praised Israeli women for their natural quality, love of fashion and for “being comfortable in their own skins.” Davis said she was not nearly as naive or conservative as her fictional character. Still, there was no “Sex and the Old City” talk — despite some creative questions from reporters. Davis played Charlotte York on the popular HBO series “Sex and the City,” which was recently expanded into a hit movie. Her character is a prim Park Avenue socialite turned Jewish wife. Davis, who is single, said she learned about the religion on the set, but when asked if she liked Jewish men in real life, she refused to discuss her romances. She also declined to discuss Israeli politics or the Mideast conflict, but when asked whom she endorsed for U.S. President she flashed a big smile and emphatically said “Obama!” “He is fantastic, and it’s a very exciting time in America,” she said. She said she and her fellow “Sex and the City” actors Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon “love Hillary”, but now that Clinton was out of the picture would put their star power behind Obama. “We are Democrats,” she said. Ahava CEO Yaacov Ellis said Davis perfectly represented the company’s core values of “beauty, nature and life.” The company’s products are based on the beneficial qualities of the Dead Sea.

AWWWW, I love it … it kinda feels like Charlotte York is the one who journeyed to Jerusalem to shill for Ahava skin care … cuz, you know, I have a hard time separating reality from fiction. In any event, she looks great in these pics and I’m happy that she is enjoying the spotlight all on her own, without any of her co-stars horning in on the lurve (SJP, I’m talkin’ to you). It’s just a shame that she had to journey to the other side of the planet to stand apart on her own.

Breaking News: Paris Hilton Shuns Photographers

Signals the End of the World
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

So how’s this for odd behavior … Paris Hilton, who is currently in NYC, was snapped sneaking out the backdoor of Club Marquee on her way to Club 1 Oak last night — and she actively tried to hide her face from view behind her purse … like, she was actually trying to avoid being photographed … like, WTF?!?

In recent weeks, I’ve noticed that Paris has really been cleaning up her act. Since she started dating Benji Madden of Good Charlotte, Paris has put her partying on lock-down, has been dressing more conservatively and more classily (is that even a word?) and has managed to keep control of herself in such a manner as to avoid getting into trubs — there’s been nary a nip slip or crotch shot in months! And now she’s decided she no longer wants attention from the paparazzi?! I’m shocked and aghast. I don’t know if this is the sort of behavior we should expect from Paris from here on out but … I’m just trying to pick my chin up off the floor so I can process properly. I mean … seriously … WTF?!

Prince Harry Honors Britain’s Fallen Soldiers

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Prince Harry was among the soldiers who participated in a parade/ceremony to honor the 24 British, Danish, American and Czech soldiers who lost their lives during the deployment of the 52 Infantry Brigade in Helmand Province from October 2007 to April 2008 — the same tour of duty that Prince Harry secretly served in Afghanistan himself. Here are a few photos of Prince Harry among the 200 servicemen and women on Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile ahead of a service at the city’s St Giles’ Cathedral earlier today:

PRINCE Harry took part in a memorial to troops who fell during his tour of Afghanistan today. The 23-year-old Household Cavalry officer joined 200 servicemen and women on Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile ahead of a service at the city’s St Giles’ Cathedral. The event was held to pay tribute to the 24 British, Danish, American and Czech soldiers who lost their lives during the deployment of the 52 Infantry Brigade in Helmand Province from October to April. But it came as news emerged of the deaths of four British soldiers in a blast east of Lashkar Gah. Harry was among the 200 soldiers, sailors and airmen representing their units in the colourful parade through the centre of Edinburgh’s Old Town. The troops, led by a dozen-strong pipe band, were applauded by the hundreds of onlookers who made their way down to the cathedral from the start at Johnston Terrace. There were shouts of “Well done” as the soldiers passed by. Harry wore his khaki service dress and a navy cap with a red trim. The troops went on to join families of those killed or wounded at the memorial service, along with UK Defence Secretary Des Browne and his Danish counterpart, Soren Gade. The Prince spent 10 weeks on the frontline before being flown home in February amid fears for his safety when his deployment was reported in foreign media. Around 7,500 soldiers were deployed under 52 Brigade command on Operation Herrick 7. The Brigade, whose headquarters are at Edinburgh Castle, handed over to 16 Air Assault on April 10. Harry’s involvement was kept secret by the UK media to prevent details reaching the Taliban and endangering him and his comrades. He was removed after news was leaked on a US website.

It’s great that Harry wanted to be part of this memorial event today. I’m sure it meant a lot to him to stand up and publicly honor his fallen comrades so that the public is aware of their sacrifice. His involvement in today’s ceremony brings more attention to the event and does raise public awareness (ie. I had no idea this event was to take place and now I do). Unlike Prince William’s military involvement (which has been relegated to sequestered service in flight school, on tiny boats, etc.), Harry’s involvement put him right in danger’s way. Now, I’m not entirely sure how much danger Prince Harry was really in when he served in Afghanistan earlier this year but I know it wasn’t entirely safe. The princes are really making a public show of their military service that likens them to any other British citizen who chooses to serve in the military … which is a far cry from the way leaders in our government operate when it comes to military service (ie. you don’t see the Bush daughters serving in the military). Props and kudos go out to the princes of England for their service, no matter how real or unreal it may be.

Heidi Klum Wins A Peabody Award

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Heidi Klum, host and executive producer of the hit competitive reality TV show Project Runway, was honored with a prestigious Peabody Award (which rewards excellence in radio and television broadcasting) earlier this week … and was lookin’ super glam as she strutted her stuff on the red carpet. According to the New York Daily News, Heidi went thru quite a few wardrobe changes … and also proudly showed off a new tattoo on right forearm:

One outfit is never enough when you’re Heidi Klum. The fun-loving supermodel went through several wardrobe changes Monday night at the 67th annual Peabody Awards and afterparty. Klum, 35, first vamped it up in red lipstick, a tight white dress and heels on the red carpet before the ceremony, held at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel. The “Project Runway” host also briefly flashed what appears to be a new tattoo on her forearm. The mother of three changed into another form-fitting frock for the afterparty – but then opted to play musical outfits with pals. Klum swapped shoes with “The Love Guru” star Mike Myers – and worked the cameras, natch – before modeling “Project Runway” winner Christian Siriano’s Buddy Holly glasses.

Yeah, yeah … now about that tattoo … I guess it’s supposed to be a scrawl that spells out Seal, the name of her husband … which I can kinda make out if I turn my head sideways and squint. In any event, I find it hard to believe that Heidi would permanently mark her arm like this, especially considering her vocation. I suspect the new “ink” is only a temporary decoration that will disappear as quickly as it appeared. Even so, much congrats to Heidi on her award … I feel it is much deserved — Project Runway is my fave reality TV show and should be honored as much as possible :)

UPDATE: Pink reader Kat writes in from Germany to inform me that Heidi gave an interview on German TV confirming that the tattoo is real, that her husband Seal got a tattoo as well and that the 3 stars represent her 3 children.

Meet The Hottest Bachelors Of 2008

... according to People magazine
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

People magazine just revealed its list of the Hollywood’s Hottest Bachelors of 2008, choosing Mario Lopez to top the list. Here are a few pics of some of the bachelors who made their list this year and a portion of People’s interview with Mario Lopez:

Mario Lopez may be PEOPLE’s Hottest Bachelor – but the A Chorus Line star and fitness buff has a shocking admission: He was a chubby baby. “I looked like a sumo wrestler,” Lopez says in a new interview. “My mom had to pull the fat folds apart when she bathed me!” But that’s all in his past. As fans know, Lopez has mined his love of fitness to create his own book, Mario Lopez’s Knockout Fitness. The exercise guru, who is recently single, says that a full slate of projects has kept him off the dating market but that hasn’t stopped him from thinking about dating completely. “I like a girl who’s from a modest sort of upbringing, because it’s more relatable,” he says, explaining what he looks for in a potential girlfriend. “I’m a first-generation American. My parents [Elvia and Mario Sr.] emigrated from Mexico and live in the same house I grew up in Chula Vista, Calif. I’d feel weird if the girl was a little too uppity or affluent, because I’m a very down-home kind of guy.”

It’s interesting that Mario was chosen to top the list of People’s Hottest Bachelors because he *just* broke up with his girlfriend Karina Smirnoff (of Dancing with the Stars fame) just a few weeks ago (I wonder who the #2 guy was/is). In any event, the full list of bachelors who made the cut this year is revealed in the new issue of People magazine (which hits newsstands on Friday) but People.com has a gallery of some of the guys who made the cut. I totes understand why dudes like Adam Levine, Terrance Howard and Gerard Butler made the list but I’m surprised that Bryan Spears (Britney’s older brother) and Hunter Johansson (Scarlett’s twin brother) made the list. Neither one is a big name in Hollywood and, yet, they still are listed among the hottest bachelors in Hollywood. Something tells me that the People list was pretty thin so they had to beef it up with extraneous family guys (not that either Bryan or Hunter aren’t hawt enough, I just think they’re not famous enough). In any event, congrats (?) goes out to the lucky dudes who made the list … I suppose kudos are in order for being hawt and single.

Same-Sex Marriage Comes To California

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Altho same-sex marriage officially became fully legal in the state of California on Monday June 16 at 5:01pm PT, it wasn’t until yesterday that most same-sex couples were allowed to get their marriage licenses … and boy did they, by the hundreds. In West Hollywood, CA, a ribbon-cutting ceremony (attended by Star Trek star George Takei and his longtime partner [soon to be husband] Brad Altman, among others) signaled the start of marriage licenses to be issued there while other counties issued their licenses with much less pomp and circumstance. Here are a few pics of George Takei with Brad Altman as they received their marriage license yesterday:

Star Trek’s George Takei is one step closer to the altar. The 71-year-old actor and longtime partner Brad Altman, 54, received a marriage license from the City of West Hollywood on Tuesday morning, becoming one of the first gay Californians to obtain a license since the state Supreme Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriages last month. “We are first and foremost beyond delighted!” an ecstatic Takei told PEOPLE minutes after he obtained the license. “It’s a landmark day.” Just days after the California ruling, Takei announced his plans to marry Altman, his partner of 21 years. The couple plan to wed on September 14 in front of family and friends, including some of Takei’s Star Trek cast mates. Immediately after obtaining their marriage license, “I started singing ‘One Singular Sensation,’” Takei said. “(Brad) said ‘I love you’ and I looked at him and said, ‘I love you.’” Takei and Altman were the first couple to receive a marriage license from West Hollywood, a city that previously did not issue licenses to gay or straight couples. The wedding will take place at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.

While George and Brad are among the first celeb couples to enjoy full marriage equality here in California there were among hundreds of same-sex couples who received marriage licenses yesterday … and many of those hundreds immediately exercised their right to marry and tied the knot.

Beckham’s Armani Mural Unveiled In San Fran

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Yesterday I posted a report that Giorgio Armani would be at the Macy’s in San Francisco, CA today to unveil a large mural of David Beckham in order to kick off the new Emporio Armani Underwear advertising campaign for Autumn/Winter 2008-09 … which will feature a new batch of Becks in Armani Undies photos. Pink reader Serena happened to be passing the San Fran Macy’s at approximately 6:30pm PT yesterday and witnessed the unofficial unveiling of the mural a wee bit early … and shares her photos with us:

She writes: I was actually in San Francisco today. Around 6:30 pm, I walked out the Macy’s entrance and there was a really loud beeping noise coming out from this construction car next to me. Turns out, they were putting up the David Beckham mural. I was walking through the outdoor amphitheater and when I turned to my right, there was the huge mural of David Beckham. On the mural, it says: Welcome David Beckham, June 18,2008. Here are some pictures that I took. The orange car thing in the back was the thing that put up the mural. Enjoy! The mural looks absolutely amazing!

Woot! Love the mural … but these 2 photos of Becks are from the first batch of Armani Underwear pics that were released back in January. I understand that Becks himself will join Giorgio Armani in San Francisco today for the official unveiling of the mural and presumably to release some (???) of his new Armani pics. So while I totally <3 the massive mural, I'm much more interested in seeing the new pics ... which hopefully will make their way to our hungry eyes soon :)
