... everyone but Xanadu and Macbeth :(
And The 2008 Tony Awards Go To …

While I was happily celebrating the LA Lakers victory over the Boston Celtics last night, I was mourning the shaft that was given to two of my fave Broadway shows at last night’s 62nd annual Tony Awards, which were held live at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. While I was very impressed with the production value of the show (especially the bits that involved host Whoopi Goldberg, who was brills all night long) and the live cast performances (some more than others … loved Xanadu, was a tiny bit let down by both The Little Mermaid and Rent), I was just really bummed that neither Xanadu (my Best Musical) nor Macbeth (my Best Play) got any love at all from the stogy old Tony voters. Boo. Here are a few pics from the Tony Awards red carpet:

Everyone looked amazing on the red carpet … I love that Xanadu‘s Cheyenne Jackson had to show up on the red carpet in a tux and then had to strip it off to don his shorty jean shorts for the live performance and then had to get all dolled up in his tux again — and he wasn’t even nominated for an award! That’s dedication, y’all. I cannot stress enough how fun and inventive both Xanadu and Macbeth are as Broadway productions … and I’m convinced that is why neither show took home any awards. Tony voters seem to love being mired in the past (South Pacific), bucking the new and innovative and choosing instead to stick with the traditional, tired yet true (the same thing happened last year when Legally Blonde got the shaft).

Unfortch, it's not what exactly what you think
Prince William Goes Bare Back

While Britney Spears was steamin’ up things in Las Vegas over the weekend, Prince Wills was doing the same over in Ham, South West London where the young prince was snapped disrobing after a thrilling game of polo. Unfortch, his disrobing was relegated to his top half … but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth checking out anyways … behold:

Prince William has never failed to attract attention. But the future king turned more heads than usual when he stripped to the waist – revealing a surprisingly toned torso. William appeared to have lost some weight as he swapped shirts during a charity polo match yesterday. He looked honed in his bright red polo shirt and seemed happy to peel off as he changed afterwards … The prince was competing at the annual Chakravarty Cup event at Ham Polo Club in Richmond with his team Umbongo, to raise money for the Prince’s Trust. Kate Middleton however was nowhere to be seen as her boyfriend bared all.

As I may have mentioned before, I’m more a fan of Prince Harry but Wills can deffo hold his own weight … and toned muscle … Woot! But almost as soon as Wills stripped off his top, he put on another one and went on his merry way …

The Tone-y Award

Daaaaaayum! It looks like all those trips to various Bally’s Total Fitness gyms all over SoCal weren’t just for show. Britney Spears, who spent her Father’s Day weekend in Las Vegas, NV with her Papa Jamie Spears, showed up at the “clothing optional” Bare pool lounge (opting to wear clothing) at the Mirage Hotel & Casino lookin’ like a million bucks — new hair extensions and all!!! From the sound of it, Britney had herself a great weekend with her pops:

What a difference a few months makes. In February, Britney Spears wouldn’t even talk to her father, Jamie Spears, as he attempted to wrest control of her downward-spiraling life. And now, after inching ever-closer back to a normal life, the pop star and her pop spent the weekend together in Las Vegas for Father’s Day, where Brit-Brit took in some exotic wildlife. According to a source inside Vegas’ Mirage Hotel & Casino, where Brit and dad were holed up for the holiday, the singer spent her afternoon in Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage. “She swam side by side with the dolphins at the resort in a private pool,” says the insider. “Later she gushed over Siegfried & Roy’s six-week old tiger cubs in their special nursery at the Secret Garden taking pictures of the cubs with a female friend.” The singer was so enamored, she even stopped by the habitat’s gift shop to pick up a plush tiger and plush lion, perhaps for her boys back in L.A. After her swim with the dolphins, Brit had her stylist Kim Vo and his team of assistants re-do her extensions. Then, insiders say she checked out the tops-optional Bare pool lounge — though no one’s saying if Brit, who was wearing a super-short blue sundress, did any showing off of her ample bosom. “She was all smiles,” one witness tells OK!. “Glowing and looking totally fresh and healthy.”

Yes, indeed, what a difference a few months makes … but it also goes to show that removing dangerous people from her life also makes a huge, positive difference as well. I am just so happy that Britney finally healed the rift that existed between her and her family and wisened up enough to let them help her sort out her messy life. I’m utterly convinced that Britney was being controlled (either by manipulation or by drugs or both) by scurrilous leeches in her life who contributed to her downward spiral. Consider, Sam Lutfi, her cousin Alli Sims and former photog Adnan Ghalib (who used to be by her side constantly) haven’t been allowed near Britney for months … and in that time she has won back visitation rights with her children, has made 2 successful appearances on prime time TV and has started looking healthier than she has looked in months … perhaps years. She finally has the real chance to win her life back and she is showing that she is serious about staying stable and is serious about making a return to form. Ex-hubby Kevin Federline may have sojourned to Las Vegas to pick up an award from a nightclub but Britney made her way to Vegas to attain something more precious … an amazing weekend with the man who, quite possibly, saved her life — her father.

Stayin' Alive in Game 5
LA Lakers Win Game 5 Of The NBA Finals

Woot! Folks here in LA are celebratin’ today that their beloved LA Lakers came back from a 3-1 deficit in the 2008 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics and won Game 5 of the championship series at the Staples Center here in downtown LA last night. After their disappointing performance in Game 4, many naysayers were predicting that Boston would win last night’s game and send the Lakers home empty-handed and they would be taking the championship trophy with them back East to Boston … but the Lakers woke up, played like they’ve been playing all season long and pulled out another win, bringing the series tally to 3-2:

Pack up the championship trophy and book a flight back to Boston, the NBA finals aren’t over yet. The Los Angeles Lakers are headed East to try a historic comeback of their own. Kobe Bryant scored 25 points, including a decisive dunk in the final minute — and Lamar Odom added 20 as the Lakers, playing with pride on their star-studded stage, prevented the Celtics from winning a 17th title with a 103-98 win in Game 5 on Sunday night to close to 3-2 in this restored rivalry. No team has overcome a 3-1 deficit in the finals to win a title. The first 28 failed, and now the Lakers, who blew a 24-point lead and lost Game 4 and nearly squandered a 19-point lead in Game 5, have a chance to do something extraordinary. They’ll have to win on the Celtics’ parquet floor Tuesday night to force a winner-take-all Game 7, where anything is possible … The Lakers needed to hold on to set up a Game 6 on Tuesday night back in Boston. A Celtics victory would give them 17 championships, and the first for their trio of Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

Of course, the Lakers faithful showed up in full force at the Staples Center last night … Including LA’s biggest fan of all …
