Super ‘Heroes’

Monday, June 9th, 2008

While a few celebs partook of the 2008 LA Pride festivities in West Hollywood, CA and a bunch of others made their way out to Santa Monica, CA for The 6th Annual TV Land Awards … others still made their way out to the Wadsworth Theatre Grounds in Los Angeles, CA yesterday to participate at the annual A Time for Heroes Celebrity Carnival (which benefits the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation). Here are a bunch of pics of some of the folks who came out for the carnival yesterday:

Awww … it looks like Nic/Joel, Speidi and Lance Bass all made friends with Barney the dinosaur — which is really funny because my friend Darion ran into Lance later on yesterday night at a private Pride pool party and had little encounter with him. I wonder if Lance grabbed Barney’s butt, too? Anyways, I love that Heroes star Zachary Quinto, Buffy alum Seth Green and ex-Young and the Restless star Lauralee Bell all came out to support the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. It is very heartening that Young Hollywood is so willing to lend their support to such an amazing charity. It’s events like this that give me hope that Hollywood isn’t really filled with vapid, self-serving folks and that people actually care. Wee! [Source]

‘The Incredible Hulk’ Premieres

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Hollywood’s second stab at a big screen movie adaptation of The Incredible Hulk had its Hollywood premiere here at Universal City at Universal Studios in the Gibson Amphitheatre yesterday afternoon. The Incredible Hulk stars Ed Norton, Liv Tyler and Tim Roth were joined by folks like TV’s own Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno, Buffy alum and Dexter star Julie Benz and Days of our Lives star Alison Sweeney among others. Here are a few pics of these folks as they took to the green carpet Sunday afternoon:

On the one hand, I’m glad that they are giving the Hulk another shot at box office glory … on the other hand, I’m afraid it might turn out just as terrrrrible as Ang Lee’s movie Hulk. I’m encouraged that the story is much more in line with both the comic books and the 1970’s TV series but the CGI graphics kinda look a bit similar (ie. kinda Shrekish). My gut tells me that this movie will be better than the previous Hulk movie but it remains to be seen if that will actually the case. The movie opens in theaters this coming Friday … I hope it has an incredible opening weekend :) Yes, I should be shot for that lame line. [Source]

TV Royalty Gets Its Day In The Sun

TV Land hands out some awards
Monday, June 9th, 2008

The 6th Annual TV Land Awards took place at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, CA yesterday and a cavalcade of classic TV stars took to the red carpet for the event. It must be said, tho, that whoever the genius was who decided to make the celebs walk the carpet (and be photographed) in the blinding mid-day SoCal sun should be fired … you could almost see the make-up melting off the faces of some of our most beloved and revered classic TV celebs. Too cruel … too cruel, indeed. Anyways … here are a few photos from the TV Land Awards red carpet and a few golden moments as noted by USA Today:

As usual, the TV Land Awards brought together an unusual collection of Hollywood stars. On the red carpet and during the show, taped Sunday, they joked around or, more seriously, shared details of their lives. USA TODAY was at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., to catch the action:

Lionel Richie, who was presented the Icon Award for his 40 years in show business. He said on stage as he accepted his award, “Just surviving 27 years of Nicole Richie. … I stand here as survivor.”

Justin Timberlake, who presented Mike Myers with his award. He was greeted by shouts of love from a male audience member. “That’s OK. Nothing wrong with a little bromance,” Timberlake joked.

Dawn Wells of Gilligan’s Island. She talked about the October arrest in Idaho that made headlines in February; she was placed on probation after being caught with marijuana in her car. “None of it was true,” Wells said. “I was weaving on the road and trying to find the (car) heater. (Police) never gave me a breathalyzer test, but they asked to search my car and found three (marijuana) roaches. My friend had been driving my car earlier in the day. He admitted to it all.” She continued, “The story mushroomed, and I lost out on a Girl Scout speaking engagement.”

Gary Coleman of Diff’rent Strokes. Coleman walked the carpet solo but says that despite reports, he and wife Shannon Price are still together. Their one-year anniversary is Aug. 28, and she is expecting him “to come up with something spectacular,” he says. He wouldn’t comment on reports that he’s still a virgin, but he had plenty to say about Price otherwise: She likes to sell items on eBay, including Coleman autographs. And she wasn’t with him because she was at home, where “she has three dachshunds. She is very much a caregiver to them.”

Um, hello! Clearly the most Golden moment of the whole affair was the arrival of 3 of the Golden Girls on the TV Land red carpet — Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan and Betty White. Altho all 4 of the Golden Girls are still alive, Estelle Getty suffers from Lewy Body Dementia and is no longer well enough to able to make public appearances (Rue McClanahan revealed in an interview a few years ago that Estelle has deteriorated to the point where she no longer recognizes any of her GG co-stars and, very sadly, has no recollection at all of the show). I know Estelle was there in spirit tho, she is always present in spirit whenever the Golden Girls get together. Despite the fact that we are inundated with a plethora of (oftentimes useless) award shows, I really love the TV Land Awards for the mere fact that all of our favorite classic TV stars have a chance to be featured all together at least once a year. I mean, how else would Barry Williams be able to occupy his days? The TV Land Awards will air on TV Land on June 15th. [Source]

‘Cuchi-Cuchi’, Bitches!

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Olivia Newton-John wasn’t the only fabulous international performer to take the stage here in West Hollywood, CA this weekend to perform for the 2008 LA Pride celebration … María del Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza Rasten was also in the hiz to perform for the assembled revelers. You may know her better as Charo:

Seriously … Charo has to be the one of the fiercest women IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. I’ve been a huge fan of Charo ever since I was a little kid … my parents have been big fans of her for years. Some of you may know Charo from her stint on The Surreal Life a few years ago but she has been an accomplished performer for decades now. I wish I had known that Charo was performing this weekend cuz I would’ve gotten my buns down to the fete to see her perform. This post is for my boy Erik back home in Detroit who has to be the biggest Charo fan I’ve ever met … I’m sending out a major Cuchi-Cuchi to you!!! [Source]

Take Pride In Your Work

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Australia’s own Olivia Newton-John (who we last saw earlier this year trekking along in China for her Great Walk to Beijing charity walk with Dannii Minogue among others) was the headlining performer at the 2008 LA Gay Pride celebration in West Hollywood, CA this weekend. Here are a few pics of Olivia on stage during her performance:

From what I understand, this weekend’s performance will be her only concert stop of the year. After Olivia completed her second of two encores, she was brought back on stage to be presented a proclamation from the City of West Hollywood which essentially named her the coolest woman on Earth! This year’s Pride event scored a real coup by getting Olivia Newton-John to perform but it was really no surprise me. Olivia has been a huge supporter of GLBT rights and it made total sense that she would sign on to headline this year’s event. Olivia, it is with all sincerity that I say, I Honestly Love You :) [Source]

Jessica Alba Gives Birth To A Baby Girl

Monday, June 9th, 2008

US Weekly is reporting that Jessica Alba and new hubby Cash Warren became the proud parents of a baby girl that was born “sometime” this weekend here in SoCal. According to the mag (which is, thus far, the only publication reporting this news), the baby was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and granddaddy Alba was overheard talking about how beautiful the baby girl is. No formal official confirmation has been released by the couple thus far:

Jessica Alba and her husband Cash Warren have welcomed a baby girl. She was born this weekend at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Alba’s father was overheard saying “she’s beautiful.” Warren — in a T-shirt, jeans and baseball cap — was spotted carrying food into the maternity ward Sunday. Her rep had no comment. Alba, 26, and Warren, 28, announced they were expecting last December.

HMMM … the report is very light on deets and has no official confirmation. Also, People magazine has yet to report this news so … I’m holding off on the congrats until we know for sure. [Source]

UPDATE: People magazine got confirmation from the couple’s rep, they did indeed have a baby girl:

Jessica Alba and husband Cash Warren have welcomed a baby girl. Honor Marie Warren was born June 7 in Los Angeles, her rep, Brad Cafarelli, confirms. This is the couple’s first child.

Accordingly, much congrats are in order!!!
