Take A Bow (Tie)

David Beckham was among the guests at celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey‘s opening event for his new restaurant The London West Hollywood in West Hollywood, CA last night. Unfortch for Becks tho, he looked more like one of the wait-staff than he did as one of the guests:

Fashion conscious David Beckham looks a dog’s dinner for friend Gordon Ramsay’s Los Angeles restaurant launch. If Gordon was ever short of waiting staff then he need to look no further than his good friends. Maybe that’s what David Beckham thought was required of him when he turned up to the opening of Ramsay’s new restaurant at the The London West Hollywood last night. Looking remarkably like a waiter in a crisp white shirt, waistcoat and dickie bow, Becks turned out to support his celebrity chef pal while avoiding the female diners who were no doubt queuing up to give him their orders. Beckham came out to support pal Ramsay at the opening of Gordon Ramsay at the London, West Hollywood hotel last night, as did Simon Cowell’s girlfriend Terri Seymour. This is the first restaurant in Los Angeles for the fiery 41-year-old chef. It is located in the former Bel-Age hotel on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, the hotel has recently been renovated and re-named the London West Hollywood. The winner of his US reality TV show, Hell’s Kitchen, was promised the title of senior sous chef at London West Hollywood, plus £125,000 cash. The final episode of the season airs next month.Truth be told, I don’t really mind Becks in this get-up … he looks cute in his little vest and bow tie. He can take my order anytime he likes. I’d happily let him fill my water glass. Instead of Check, please I’d be saying Becks, please! Uh, okay … I’ll stop with the lame waiter jokes ;) This is kinda a cute look for him … I hope we see more of Becks in a bow tie. [Source]

From A-List To D-List

Last night, celebs of varying caliber (mostly lower caliber) made their way out to the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC to attend the first annual Bravo TV A-List Awards. Hosted by Kathy Griffin, the A-List Awards seeks to honor the folks that have made an indelible mark in the arts which, according to Bravo, include beauty, design, fashion, food and pop culture. Here are a few pics from the A-List Awards red carpet:

It is amazing that an awards show called the A-List Awards managed to take place without any A-Listers on board. But hey, they got Tila Tequila to show up so I guess it was mission: accomplished. The show taped live last night but won’t air on Bravo until June 12 at 10PM.

Since the show hasn’t aired yet, I can only guess that Kathy Griffin managed to pull off an entertaining evening of hilarity … which is where these next photos of Kathy with BFF Lance Bass come in:

I’m assuming that Kathy and Lance were doing a little skit parodying the Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake wardrobe malfunction that swept the globe a few years ago. Even tho the bit is a bit dated (well, it’s pretty ancient to be completely honest), I like that they updated it with busting out the fake penis in Lance‘s pants. Of course, I would be very surprised if the fake appendage in this photo is really representative of his actual appendage. In any event, I know that *I* can’t wait to find out who will be taking home the awards for A-List Drama Queen, A-List Everywhere and A-List Restaurant. Okay, so mebbe I don’t really care since these categories sound horribly lame … but still, I love Kathy Griffin so I’ll be tuning in to watch in the hopes of enjoying some measure of hilarity … especially since it doesn’t look like there’ll be much celebrity to enjoy ;)

A Commitment To Love

The Abbey in West Hollywood, CA was awash in lurve last night as a mass same-sex commitment ceremony took place to rally for marriage equality as well as kick-off this year’s Pride festivities. TR Knight, Jay Leno and Judy Shepard (mother of the late Matthew Shepard) were among the folks on hand last night to witness and celebrate the the couples who were on hand to pledge their love and commitment to one another. Here are a few pics from last night’s ceremony:

Just weeks after winning the right to marry, dozens of same-sex couples took part in a symbolic commitment ceremony in West Hollywood. But Wednesday night’s event wasn’t just a celebration of love and a court victory. It also was a vow to keep fighting, because a ballot measure in November could take away what was won. “I take nothing for granted,” said Sonora Chase, 35, who participated in the event with her partner Dasha Snyder, 37. The couple plans to marry in the coming months, but say they are proceeding knowing their union could be invalidated if the measure passes. This was a third year in a row that The Abbey, a popular lounge, kicked off Gay Pride month in Los Angeles with such a ceremony. Faded pink rose petals sprinkled the white carpet as a guitarist performed Pachelbel’s “Canon in D.” The crowd of family and friends gathered in support as their loved ones stood in front of the mayor of West Hollywood to take a vow. “Your joined hands are outward and visible signs of an inward and spiritual bond,” Mayor Jeffrey Prang said, “signifying to all your commitment to each other and your commitment in vowing to vote and protect your right to love.” Then, before a cadre of television celebrities and the family of a modern gay rights martyr, the couples sealed the pledge with kisses. Earlier Wednesday, the California Supreme Court refused to stay its May decision legalizing gay marriage. Counties must begin issuing new gender-neutral marriage licenses on June 17 … the event drew celebrities who in this case served as witnesses. “Grey’s Anatomy” co-star T.R. Knight hosted the event accompanied by his boyfriend, Mark Cornelsen, but they did not join the other couples marching down the white carpet to exchange vows. “There’s a lot of hate around and until that hate disappears, you’re going to have people trying to push down another group of people for whatever reason,” Knight said. Fresh from “The Tonight Show” set and a March dustup over a show in which he asked actor Ryan Phillipe to portray his “gayest face,” Jay Leno dropped by briefly to lend support. “I have friends in the gay community. Who doesn’t know gay people in Hollywood?” Leno joked. Wednesday’s event also had a commercial sponsor and a designated cause, the Matthew Shepard Foundation, the nonprofit established by the family of the University of Wyoming student who was beaten to death in 1998 by two men who suspected he was gay. New York jewelry designer Udi Behr gave participating couples titanium pendants engraved with the words “Erase Hate” – the foundation’s slogan. Behr, who designs a line of wedding rings for same-sex couples, said business was good. He seemed less upbeat, though, about the country’s gay-rights struggle – even in the wake of the decision of the state’s high court. “It’s a drop in the ocean,” Behr said. “There is a lot more to do.” Matthew Shepard’s mother, Judy, provided a poignant reminder of how much the gay rights movement had gained since his murder and of how much remained at stake. She recalled sitting with her son in his apartment the summer before his death and having him ask whether she thought gay men and lesbians would be able to marry in his lifetime. “I said, ‘Not in my lifetime, but definitely in yours,’” Shepard recalled. “It happened in my lifetime, not his.” [Source]My boys Steph and Alek were on hand at last night’s ceremony at The Abbey and they graciously share these photos from the event with all of us:

Words cannot express how amazing all of this is right now. Despite the fact that this commitment ceremony has no legal standing, it is very heartening to see these folks publicly pledging their love to one another no matter the circumstance. It’s still a bit unbelievable that same-sex couples will be allowed official marriage licenses to be wed in the state of California starting on June 17. I am confident that we will, one day, reach a point in this country where discrimination against same-sex marriage will be a thing of the past. Our country was founded on the principles of equality, liberty and justice for all … these are the first steps to ensuring that those principles be afforded to all couples who wish to marry in this country — equally.

Hillary Clinton Ends Her Run; Will Endorse Barack Obama

Senator Hillary Clinton has made the official announcement that she is ready to end her campaign for the Democratic Party nomination for the Presidency of the United States of America and fully intends to endorse the presumptive nominee and her primary campaign opponent Senator Barack Obama. The Clinton campaign sent an email to all of its supporters early this morning to inform them of this announcement, here is the full text of that email:

I wanted you to be one of the first to know: on Saturday, I will hold an event in Washington D.C. to thank everyone who has supported my campaign. Over the course of the last 16 months, I have been privileged and touched to witness the incredible dedication and sacrifice of so many people working for our campaign. Every minute you put into helping us win, every dollar you gave to keep up the fight meant more to me than I can ever possibly tell you.On Saturday, I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy. This has been a long and hard-fought campaign, but as I have always said, my differences with Senator Obama are small compared to the differences we have with Senator McCain and the Republicans.I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party’s nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise. When I decided to run for president, I knew exactly why I was getting into this race: to work hard every day for the millions of Americans who need a voice in the White House.I made you — and everyone who supported me — a promise: to stand up for our shared values and to never back down. I’m going to keep that promise today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life.I will be speaking on Saturday about how together we can rally the party behind Senator Obama. The stakes are too high and the task before us too important to do otherwise.I know as I continue my lifelong work for a stronger America and a better world, I will turn to you for the support, the strength, and the commitment that you have shown me in the past 16 months. And I will always keep faith with the issues and causes that are important to you.In the past few days, you have shown that support once again with hundreds of thousands of messages to the campaign, and again, I am touched by your thoughtfulness and kindness.I can never possibly express my gratitude, so let me say simply, thank you.Sincerely,Hillary Rodham ClintonThe New York Times explains Clinton‘s plans for her endorsement and how the Democratic Party is planning to unify and move forward from this point on:Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will endorse Senator Barack Obama on Saturday, bringing a close to her 17-month campaign for the White House, aides said. Her decision came after Democrats urged her Wednesday to leave the race and allow the party to coalesce around Mr. Obama. Howard Wolfson, one of Mrs. Clinton’s chief strategists, and other aides said she would express support for Mr. Obama and party unity at an event in Washington that day. One adviser said Mrs. Clinton would concede defeat, congratulate Mr. Obama and proclaim him the party’s nominee, while pledging to do what was needed to assure his victory in November. Her decision came after a day of conversations with supporters on Capitol Hill about her future now that Mr. Obama had clinched the nomination. Mrs. Clinton had, in a speech after Tuesday night’s primaries, suggested she wanted to wait before deciding about her future, but in conversations Wednesday, her aides said, she was urged to step aside. “We pledged to support her to the end,” Representative Charles B. Rangel, a New York Democrat who has been a patron of Mrs. Clinton since she first ran for the Senate, said in an interview. “Our problem is not being able to determine when the hell the end is.” Mrs. Clinton’s decision came as some of her most prominent supporters — including former Vice President Walter F. Mondale — announced they were now backing Mr. Obama. “I was for Hillary — I wasn’t against Obama, who I think is very talented,” Mr. Mondale said. “I’m glad we made a decision and I hope we can unite our party and move forward.” One of Mrs. Clinton’s aides said they were told that except for her senior advisers, there was no reason to report to work after Friday, and that they were invited to Mrs. Clinton’s house for a farewell celebration. The announcement from Mrs. Clinton was moved to Saturday to accommodate more supporters who wanted to attend, aides said. “Senator Clinton will be hosting an event in Washington, D.C., to thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity,” Mr. Wolfson said. Mr. Obama, not waiting for a formal concession from Mrs. Clinton, announced a three-member vice-presidential selection committee that will include Caroline Kennedy, who has become a close personal adviser since endorsing him four months ago. With some Democrats promoting Mrs. Clinton as Mr. Obama’s No. 2, his aides said they would move slowly in the search, allowing passions from the bruising primary battles to cool. “Now that the interfamily squabble is done,” Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening at a Manhattan fund-raiser, “all of us can focus on what needs to be done in November.” Earlier Wednesday, Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton crossed paths briefly in Washington. As he left the Capitol, Mr. Obama told reporters, “We’re going to have a conversation in the coming weeks.” … Aides to Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton said that at least some of Mrs. Clinton’s fund-raisers would move to join the Obama campaign. Still, with the realization of defeat still settling in, it appeared that most of her major financial backers were holding back until they got a clearer signal from Mrs. Clinton of her intentions. “I’m being aggressively courted by folks in the Obama campaign,” said Mark Aronchick, a Philadelphia lawyer, who is a national finance co-chairman. “I’ve told them all, ‘Everybody relax. Take a deep breath. There’s time enough here.’” On Thursday, Mr. Obama planned to head to the southwestern tip of Virginia, in Appalachia, to begin courting voters in a state that traditionally goes Republican but could be a battleground in the fall. Then, he intends to take a few days to strategize privately about the general-election campaign.I am very much looking forward to the unification of the Democratic Party so that we can all work together and ensure that we take back the White House. I echo Mondale‘s sentiments, I was for Hillary Clinton and always believed she would make an outstanding President and was never against Barack Obama. Now that he has emerged as the Democratic nominee, I fully endorse his campaign and plan to do whatever I can to help him become the next President of the United States. This election is very important, y’all. It is vital that we make a serious change in leadership or our country is going to suffer further. I have no doubt in my mind that Barack Obama will be able to bring us the change that our country desperately needs.
