Brad Pitt Becomes An ‘Inglourious Basterd’

After their quick trip to the US earlier this month, the Brangelina brood made their way back to Nice, France for what I guessed would be an extended stay. It turns out that their trip to Nice was only a stop-over on their way to Berlin, Germany where Brad Pitt has begun work on his next film, to be directed by Quentin Tarantino. The film is titled Inglourious Basterds and here is our first look at Brad in the role of nazi-hunter Lt. Aldo Raine:

In Brad Pitt’s upcoming World War II movie, he plays a vengeance-seeking Nazi hunter – and he looks the part. The first portrait of Pitt’s character, Lt. Aldo Raine, in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (yes, the misspelling is intentional), was released Monday. Clad in tough-looking fighter gear, Pitt portrays the leader of the “Basterds,” a group of Jewish-American soldiers who scalp and brutally kill Nazis. Pitt’s character is described on as not “your Warner Brothers 1950’s WW2 hero … this is a hillbilly straight from the mountains of Tennessee.”

Interesting. Brad Pitt seems to have a penchant for taking on roles that have the ability to test his acting chops. His previous roles have been so varied that I hardly bat an eye whenever I hear of his next movie role. There was quite a bit of buzz over his role in Burn After Reading but since the movie was released this summer, I’ve heard nary a word about it since. This Tarantino film sounds a wee bit similar to the Tom Cruise movie Valkyrie (wherein Cruise plays a German soldier who tried to unsuccessfully assassinate Hitler) and may end up competing with the film. Valkyrie was supposed to be released this year and has been pushed back til next year. No word on when the Tarantino film will be released (since it just began filming) but a film like this tends to get released in time for serious Oscar contention (early Fall). Brad puts on a nice hero posture, we’ll have to see if he can deliver the goods when Inglourious Basterds eventually gets released.

  • Saple

    Um HOT!!

  • Anna

A hillbilly Brad Pitt killing Nazis. Couldn’t get any better. I absolutely love his acting!

  • jadedsweetie

i’m also excited about this movie for daniel bruhl, who apparently recently signed on. there is a lot of hotness in this movie!

  • Yup, I totally agree – he does challenge himself and appears to be crossing right over to the “underrated” category of modern actors.
I’m VERY excited that he’s working with Tarantino – if this film is as beautiful to watch as were both Kill Bill’s, well, then, we all is gonna be in some real movie-watchin’ biznizz!
But I’m also WAY stoked actually for his next movie at xmas with Cate Blanchett (the Benjamin Buttons flick) – I love that Brad & Cate are together again; I love that Fincher is directing Pitt again; and I love that its F. Scott Fitzgerald on the big screen … it looks really interesting indeed.
BTW, didja know that Fincher directed George Michael’s video for Freedom ’90 and Madonna’s Express Yourself? Cool!
