Daniel Radcliffe Arrives In NYC

Prepares for his Broadway debut

Here are a couple pics of film and stage actor Daniel Radcliffe making his way out of the New York Times Center building in NYC yesterday (as he was mobbed by throngs of awaiting fans) after sitting down with the newspaper to do an interview about his upcoming stint on Broadway in the play Equus:

On Tuesday, August 19, 2008 Daniel Radcliffe, soon to make his Broadway debut in Equus, participated in the New York Times’ Times Talks Seminar Series. Press notes described the event as, “Daniel Radcliffe: Screen to Broadway Stage, From the boy wizard in the “Harry Potter” films and Rudyard Kipling’s ill-fated son in the TV drama “My Boy Jack,” to the disturbed teenager in the London and Broadway revivals of Peter Schaffer’s play Equus, Daniel Radcliffe is an actor of diverse talents. He discussed his upcoming Broadway debut in the drama, which starts previews on September 5, and also how he’s been able to move from screen to stage so seamlessly.” Daniel Radcliffe was interviewed at the sold out event by Julie Bosman, New York Times culture reporter. Equus begins preview performances on Broadway on September 5th prior to opening night on September 25. Equus will play a strictly limited engagement through February 8, 2009.

You may have heard that Warner Bros. studios has decided to push back the next Harry Potter film, The Half-Blood Prince, from this Fall to next Summer … most likely because they didn’t want their basically innocent kid’s film competing with Daniel‘s racy Broadway run (which starts next month) and features the lad completely nude on stage … nightly. Makes sense. I imagine Dan will be staying in NYC for the time being, he’s sure to have stage preparations and rehearsals to get thru before his first preview show on Sept. 5 (David and I are going to the Sept. 15th preview performance). Let the fun times commence!

WB didn’t move Harry POtter and the Half Blood Prince to July because of Equus, but because they wanted to make more money and they thought it would be a huge blockbuster in the summer. It would be a huge blockbuster anyway, so they’re just stupid!! And they’re being incredibly cruel to the fans … the movie is 100% finished but they’re just keeping the joy from us!!!

  2. There may be some truth to that but I honestly think it has more to do with ‘Equus’ than just ‘more money’. The whole thing was pretty much ready to go, EW magazine even put it on the cover of their Fall movie preview one day before the date change was announced. I honestly believe they didn’t want to compete with Daniel’s risque play — which ends in Feb, many months before the movie’s new start date.

I’ll be at Equus on September 15th too! My best friend and I got stage seats for that night.

As for HP6…there are a lot of theories, but I think you could have a point about Equus. I mean, it makes sense.

I also think it’s kind of interesting that Twilight has now changed it’s original release date (12/12) to HP6′s old release date. It’s a good move since HP fans will now have to wait until next summer for the film and a lot of them are also fans of the Twilight saga.

warner bros is dead to me.

WB has known about Equus for a year now and during the press conference in London for the last movie, most of the questions were about Dan and Equus. Equus isn’t anything new. If you read the news, you’d know that another movie company is sueing WB about their hoped for blockbuster called The Watchmen. Fox is trying to keep that movie from even being released, which would mean that WB”s only big movie might be HP and that’s only because it’s being moved.

This is bullshit!! He should have pushed back the Broadway show! I can’t believe we have to wait until next year!!

ya i dont think it has nething to do with the play either since they talk about it openly in press confrences. WB a couple of weeks ago were saying that because of the writers strike they had to push it bac while we all kno it either 100% done or at least 95%. i think that since the last harry potter did so well in the summer release that they want another summer block buster which make no sense since the other ones also came out in nov. and the all did great. WB is jus making the fans pissed by doing this

They pushed back Harry Potter and the HBP back because of the writers strike- they were worried they wouldn’t have enough movies to pull out between May-August, the most lucrative time of the year, due to the strike and with the Potter series doing so well, they decided to push it back. They didn’t even decide until this past week, and EW had already published their fall movie preview with Potter as the cover, as nobody at WB thought about telling them they were pulling the movie!! WB pissed off all kinds of fans! People are mutinous! I don’t think it had anything to do with the play, because this isn’t exactly the type of play you take your kids too, haha. Not much risk of the kids going to go see him naked!
